It seems like every day there’s a new trend in marketing, and these days it’s “content marketing.” So what is this latest trend and what does it mean for your new store?
You have traditional marketing, digital marketing, word of mouth marketing, social media marketing, influencer marketing, and even guerrilla marketing– the list goes on and on. It seems like every week, we’re bringing you a post about some sort of new “type” of marketing, and telling you why it’s important for your new store; and today is no different. Without further adieu, I introduce to you, content marketing.
What is content marketing?
The Content Marketing Institute defines content marketing as,
“A strategic marketing approach focused on creating and distributing valuable, relevant, and consistent content to attract and retain a clearly-defined audience — and, ultimately, to drive profitable customer action.”
The big thing you need to remember about content marketing is that everything is strategic. That is what separates content marketing from all the other information that is thrown at consumers daily. All your content is valuable, relevant, and consistent. If done correctly, content marketing will make consumers stop, read, think, and behave, or in the case of your new store, purchase, differently.
Types of content for content marketing
Just like there are countless types of marketing there are countless ways to share content through content marketing. But here are 7 examples to get you started:
4. Social media posts
Now I’m sure you’re thinking, “But wait, I already do most of this stuff. How is this any different from what I’ve done in the past?” But ask yourself, in the past, have you made sure you’ve consistently created strategic content and have made sure that it’s valuable and relevant? Or are you just putting content out there because you know you need to?
Also, keep in mind that content marketing is great because once you have the valuable content it can easily be revamped or repurposed to reach even more customers.
Content Marketing & Storytelling
Content marketing is a lot like storytelling. Since you want your content to make consumers stop, read, think, and purchase differently, you want your content to create an emotional connection with them. And what better way to do that than through content marketing?
For example, take the movie Remember the Titans. Through powerful storytelling about each of the different characters, we connected with the team on a deeper, emotional level that left us cheering for them to win the state semi final at the end. The same goes for your new store. Even if you’re content is just an 140 character tweet, make sure it tells a powerful story that leaves your consumers cheering for you to win.
Are you still at a loss? Maybe you can learn a few things from Dr. Seuss to kick off your content marketing efforts.
I can only imagine with all these different types of marketing out there, they often start to overlap. Or you’ve found yourself asking, “Now, why do I need all these types of marketing for my new store?!”
But trust me, different types of marketing, and especially content marketing, help you connect different consumers in the best way possible. Meaning, not only are you reaching more consumers, but you’re also making sure your brand resonates with them more than any of your competitor which ultimately makes your new store their top choice!
